St James’s church, Louth will be the focus for up to 200 choristers on Saturday 25th September for a workshop and concert by choirs from the Lincolnshire Group of the National Association of Choirs.
The highlight of the day will be the world premier of a new choral work by Fred Goodwin by all the participating choirs. Fred was given the difficult task of writing a piece that can be performed by male, female and mixed choirs. He chose three Tennyson poems (get the Lincolnshire connection?) for his composition: the Sleep;
Fred will lead the workshop and conduct his composition in the concert which begins at 6.30pm. The concert will also feature massed male voice choirs conducted by the musical directors of Grimsby & Cleethorpes Orpheus, Louth and Scunthorpe MVCs and massed female voice choirs under the batons of the musical directors of the Ludensian and Pelham singers.

The large, knowledgeable and appreciative audience included the chairman of the National Association of Choirs who was on holiday in the area.

Most of the party from Louth had spent much of Friday in the unrivalled Keukenhof gardens. The weather for the whole weekend was unseasonably warm and bright. This formed the back-drop to a renewal of friendships and splendid parties fitted in around the concert.

The pieces sung by the combined choirs were: Haec Dies, an arrangement for two choirs by a Dutch composer, Jacobus Handl; and “I’ll stay with you ’til the morning” a vocal arrangement by Anton Stulp, musical director of the Albatros, of Mozart’s clarinet concerto.

Illustrated on the left is LMVC singing “Old Time Religion”. Below, the combined choirs are being introduced by the Albatros announcer.
